Demo Released!

The first Portalnauts alpha demo is available now! What are you still doing here? You should be out there playing it right now!



Portalnauts is a platforming action game featuring multiple characters to switch between, each with their own unique abilities, with a mission to save the world from an inter-dimensional evil!

The demo features a brief gameplay tutorial, 4 levels of action platforming awesomeness and a boss battle with a giant mummy robot in a pyramid! How could you possibly lose!

Introducing Mumm-Bott

Most of the last week has been spent on developing the systems for the first boss battle of the game/demo, the evil Mumm-Bott!


It feels like a pretty fun and challenging battle, which should be hard at first, but once you work out the pattern it follows it should be a lot more straightforward. He has fists that slam down on the ground to squash you and lasers he shoots from his eyes!


His head sprite looks a bit basic at the moment, and I’ll probably focus on tidying that up this week, as well as continue designing levels for the upcoming demo release. Stay tuned to and for all the latest Portalnauts updates!

Demo Tutorial Made!

Development on the game is coming along pretty well, and this week I’ve spent time working on a tutorial level for the demo. This has included adding new event systems, special collectibles and designing ways of showing off instructions for the player. You can see some of it in action below!

The tutorial level probably wont be in the final game, as you’ll be introduced to characters and their abilities a little bit more gradually, but I thought it was a good idea to include in the demo to introduce you quickly to the basic controls before the other levels throw a bit more challenge at you :)

I also added a new enemy to the game, the Spider-bot!


He replaces the placeholder Grumpling enemy I had in the game, and he charges at the player if you get too close!

Those are some of the main updates this week, and next week’s update should hopefully be a video one, showing off some of the progress the game has made since last time! So stay tuned for more news!

New Desert Tiles

It’s Tuesday, so it’s time for another scheduled update! Most of the stuff I’ve been working on in the past week has been control improvements and designing some levels for playtesting. I’ve also been working on how hazards and enemies will work in the game, all stuff that will hopefully pay off in the near future :)

The level tiles for the desert were badly in need of being redesigned, so I finally got started on that. These will be more close to the final set used in the game, and still needs a bit more variety added to it, but the process was interesting, and definitely helped inform how the rest of the tiles in the game will be handled. How to design a tileset could be a fun topic to delve into some point in the future so maybe we’ll come back to it. But anyway, below is a screenshot with the new tileset and I’ll see you all either here next week or streaming development live on!


Website Launched!

Welcome to the first update of 2015!

In the first bit of news, hey look the site is working! It’s not quite finished yet, needs some more details and whatnot, but the bones are all here, I just need to give it some spooky skeleton armour bits and bobs. This is the first official post on the site, though there are a few posts that I backdated of the development videos that have gone up over at

At the moment I’m working towards hopefully putting out a Basic Alpha Demo towards the end of the month for people to play, so the next while is going to be focused around level design and drawing enemies and hazards for the levels.

The game will be getting a big push this year with my aim being to have it finished by Late Autumn/Early Winter. There’s a lot to get done but I think it’s going to be a fun adventure. I’ll be continuing to stream development of the game regularly on so you can head over there if you want to see me doing silly things or want to suggest silly things for me to do.
